MINDFULNESS DURING THIS PANDEMIC

Many of us have found ourselves with extra time on our hands. Many mothers are spending time with their children that they would not normally have either because they are in school or because they are at work.

What are you doing with this time?

What are we seeing as we go through this time of trials and illness?  What has this slowing down of life taught us?

For me, it has shown that we rush around way too much. We work too much, we are harried by modern life. As a teacher, many of us feel that not much learning will be lost during the last quarter of school because much of it is taken up by state testing and a myriad of frenzied activities.

What are we giving up for the love of money? How might our lives be different if we weren't so bent on holding on to a standard of living that is greater than most of the people on earth? How much happiness has "things" brought us?

Many have gravitated toward a life of simplicity where they scale down their possessions in an effort to acquire freedom in their lives from the need to work jobs they don't like or hours that are unreasonable. Another trend is for people in America to seek to live in a "Tiny Home". This allows them to not be slaves to a mortgage, thereby having more time to spend with children or to spend time in nature and pursuing interests such as art and music.

Will we learn anything by this time out? I hope so. I hope I have.
